Report writing season is fast approaching, and for many teachers, that means hours spent writing personalised comments and proofreading for SPaG. And after a long term of teaching, planning and marking, starting every report from scratch can feel overwhelming.

However, with Teachmate, many teachers are already getting a head start and saving hours. In the last four weeks alone, nearly 100,000 reports have been written using Teachmate, and since the launch of our Report Writer, teachers have now generated over 2 million reports on the platform.

A user interface featuring three card-like sections: 'Report Writer', 'Headteacher Report Check & Comment', and 'Subject Reports Writer', each with brief descriptions of their functions related to generating and checking student reports.

From our much-loved Report Writer, to the brand new Subject Reports Writer (which is perfect for secondary teachers), and the Headteacher Report Check and Comment tool, Teachmate has everything you could possibly need to write, refine and finalise reports with confidence.

The Teacher Favourite: Our Report Writer

Many teachers are already using Teachmate’s Report Writer to help speed up the report writing process, whilst ensuring student reports remain high quality and personalised.

Instead of starting from a blank page, teachers can enter key information about a student and generate a clear first draft that can then be refined and personalised.

A few features teachers particularly like include:

Clone My Tone
By providing three examples of previous report comments, Teachmate can learn your writing style and replicate your tone, vocabulary and sentence structure in future reports – helping each comment sound exactly like you.

Interface for cloning writing tone with options for Yes and No, accompanied by a button labeled 'Clone my tone'.

Add up to 10 subjects
Teachers can also include up to 10 subjects or focus areas within a single report, which is especially useful for primary teachers writing reports across the curriculum.

Targets
You can choose to include personalised targets within reports, helping highlight next steps for students.

Refinement
As with all of our tools, if  the first draft isn’t quite right, the refinement bar lets you quickly guide the AI to tweak the wording until the report reads exactly how you want it.

Julie Reakes from the Australian International School in Singapore shared how helpful this has been during report season:

“Teachmate has been a life-saver for report season! Putting in key words to create individual reports with strengths and targets that are grammatically correct is ideal.”

NEW for 2026: Subject Reports Writer

The Subject Reports Writer is designed to help teachers generate personalised reports for multiple students in a single subject.

This makes it particularly useful for secondary teachers, or subject specialists, who often need to write reports for several classes in their designated subject.

To generate a subject report for your entire class, simply enter:

  • The year group and subject
  • The content covered during the term
  • Whether you want to include targets
  • An approximate word count

You can then paste in student details in a flexible format, including their strengths, areas for development and targets if needed. The tool will generate individualised report comments for each student based on the information you provide.

Report Tools for School Leaders

Teachmate also includes a Headteacher Report Check & Comment tool designed for senior leaders reviewing large numbers of reports.

By pasting a student’s report into the tool, it will:

  • Check spelling, punctuation and grammar
  • Highlight themes that could be referenced in a headteacher comment
  • Generate a draft comment that can be adapted if needed

As Cath Hurst, Executive Headteacher at Our Community Multi-Academy Trust explains:

“Each year as an Executive Head, I have over 300 reports to write comments on at the end of the summer term. In July I used Teachmate to support my headteacher’s comments. The section created allowed me to support teacher comments and adjust the tone of the comments, whilst personalising them to the individual children. The comments that we created were as good as those I write and were not at all repetitive. It made a cumbersome job much easier to manage.”
