So far this academic year, more than 100 Teachmate Ambassadors have taken part in three specialist workshops, working together towards one shared aim: leading responsible, strategic AI integration within their schools.

At Teachmate, we believe meaningful change in education is driven by teachers. The Ambassador Programme brings together educators who want to move beyond surface level AI use and develop a deeper understanding of how it fits within real school contexts. It is designed for teachers and leaders who are curious, reflective and ready to shape how AI is introduced in a way that supports professional judgement.

This year’s cohort includes classroom teachers, senior leaders and digital leads, all engaging in thoughtful discussion about what confident and responsible AI leadership looks like in practice. The focus has not been on simply using tools, but on understanding how AI works alongside safeguarding, inclusion, workload and whole school priorities.

Our Ambassador Workshops

So far this year, we have hosted three live workshops, each led by an expert guest from the education and AI sector. These sessions have provided structured space for professional dialogue, allowing ambassadors to consider strategy, implementation and impact in a balanced and informed way.

Each speaker has brought a distinct perspective, helping ambassadors examine how AI aligns with safeguarding expectations, staff development and long term school improvement. The tone throughout has been measured and practical, with an emphasis on AI clarity and confidence.

Workshop 1: Laura Knight | Defining an AI Strategy

Laura Knight opened the series by focusing on strategic AI leadership. The discussion centred on developing a clear, values-led approach that aligns with school priorities and existing frameworks. Ambassadors explored their role in connecting classroom practice with leadership thinking, ensuring AI adoption remains purposeful and grounded in professional judgement.

Workshop 2: Chris Loveday | Reducing Workload Through AI

In our second workshop, Chris Loveday turned the conversation towards workload and efficiency. Ambassadors considered how AI can support planning, report writing, resource adaptation and administrative processes while maintaining quality and personalisation. The discussion reflected wider concerns across the profession, particularly around retention and wellbeing, with many teachers reporting improved work life balance when AI is used thoughtfully. The emphasis was not simply on saving time, but on creating space to focus more fully on students.

Workshop 3: Christian Turton | Supporting Staff with AI Training

Most recently, in our latest workshop earlier this month, Christian Turton shifted the focus to AI implementation across whole staff teams. The session explored how ambassadors can support their colleagues’ confidence, address uncertainty and introduce AI into professional development in a measured way. Many reflected that uncertainty remains the primary barrier in schools. Therefore, clear, informed leadership is essential if AI is to be embedded responsibly.

Ambassador Spotlight

Kirsty Chalk, a Year 5 prep school teacher from Tunbridge Wells, joined the programme to deepen her understanding of AI rather than simply improve her prompt writing.

“I joined the Teachmate ambassador programme because I wanted to understand AI properly. Not just how to ask it to plan a lesson, but how it actually works, what the rules are and how to use it responsibly in school. I was already using AI in my teaching and colleagues were beginning to ask for advice, but I did not feel confident explaining the why behind it.”

Through the workshops, Kirsty describes a shift in how she approaches AI in the classroom.

“The sessions have helped me move away from seeing AI as a quick tool and towards using it more deliberately to support longer term goals, particularly for pupils with SEND, while keeping professional judgement at the core.”

In her classroom, the impact has been practical.

“Day to day in my classroom, the biggest impact for me has been through the SEND support tools on TeachMate. I use these to adapt tasks and make learning more accessible without lowering pupil expectations. One of my pupils’ favourite tools is Interview a Character and Draw My Setting, which have been fantastic for engagement and confidence. Teachmate feels different from more general AI tools because it is focused on real classroom needs rather than being too open-ended. The training also helped me better understand safeguarding, intellectual property and how AI systems are trained, which has made me much more confident explaining to colleagues why and how I use AI safely with both staff and pupils.”

As we now move into the second half of the programme, we look forward to continuing these discussions, welcoming new expert voices and supporting ambassadors as they lead within their own schools.
